"Hulk #24" Sneak Peak!

Jul 28, 10
As posted in Marvel News:  Incredible Hulk vs. Red Hulk ONCE AGAIN! But this time, it could be their final fight!

It happens in Hulk #24 (August 18, 2010), the issue that seals the World War Hulks saga down, by writer Jeph Loeb and artist Ed McGuinness

The last time these two Marvel powerhouses fought, the Red Hulk absorbed all of the gamma energy from the Hulk, making Jade Jaws a memory. It was only thanks to Samson's Cathexis Ray and Banner's intellect that Hulk was able to return  (Incredible Hulk #610).

Will Red use the absorbing trick again? Or this time it won't work? Will Red snap Hulk's arm (like in their first encounter)? Or is the returned from oblivion Hulk much stronger and Red has no chances? Can't wait to find out!

In the meantime, check out these two gorgeous pages by artist Ed McGuinness at Marvel.com:

Actor Mark Ruffalo to play Bruce Banner/Hulk in Avengers Movie

Jul 25, 10
As posted in Marvel news: Actor Mark Ruffalo will play scientist Bruce Banner and his alter ego, the Incredible Hulk, in the 2012 "The Avengers" movie directed by Joss Whedon.

The announcement was done during the July 2010 edition of the San Diego Comic-Con.

With Ruffalo, three actors have played the part that Bill Bixby made memorable during the TV Series of the 70s: Eric Bana (Hulk, 2003), Edward Norton (Incredible Hulk, 2008), and Mark Ruffalo (Avengers, 2012).

Tobey McGuire played the part of Peter Parker, the Spider-Man, in all of the three Spider-Man movies. This is ideal, it's usually preferable that a single actor stays with the role of such an important character as Banner. But with the Hulk, we know that change is the name of the game.

My best wishes, Mark Ruffalo, and have fun with all that power.

Planet Hulk: Writer Greg Johnson Talks Hulk!

Jan 22, 10
As posted in Marvel Movie News: The scribe returns to a character he's tackled many times during his long association with Marvel Animation.

Marvel.com: How did you get involved with writing the “Planet Hulk” DVD project?

Greg Johnson: I've had a pretty strong relationship with Marvel over the years. I story edited “X-Men Evolution,” wrote the first handful of these MLG [Marvel Lionsgate] movies...I think, to a large extent, it was a comfort factor that we all have had. It's a very productive working relationship. So when it came time to adapt something that was so huge they felt confident that I would be able to get it into a form where it could be told visually in 70-some odd minutes.

Marvel.com: You mentioned cutting it down, was it difficult taking a year-long comic story and turning it into an animated movie?

Greg Johnson: It was incredibly challenging. Basically, there's two ways of approaching adapting something like this. One is that you try and get everything you can compressed into the running time. The other is to work the other way, which is to figure out what the basic spine of the movie is. In this case, it's Hulk's journey. Then I added in things from the book where I could that would support his arc. So, we started with the basic premise and expanded it with a list of all of the incredible scenes from the book, plugging them in where we could and ultimately, once we were battling length, things had to get pulled out to establish the right balance.

Marvel.com: What are the challenges of working within such a limited amount of screen time?

Greg Johnson: It really has to be consistently written as a way that you can measure the length somewhat. So, keeping it within the page length is key. [Sometimes] you have a huge scene where you have a lot of backstory with your supporting characters that would have been really great to get into, but they didn't necessarily have any direct influence on what the Hulk was doing. In the course of our story we just couldn't stray that far from the basic narrative, so a lot of those scenes didn't get quite as developed as they would have if the running time had been a little longer.

Red Hulk: Thinking Cosmic

Dec 30, 09
As posted in Marvel Comic News: By Marc Strom
Jeff Parker brings the Cosmic Hulk Robot into the fray with FALL OF THE HULKS: RED HULK #1.

Bruce Banner's extended family will see the return of a long-lost member-of sorts-in FALL OF THE HULKS: RED HULK #1 on January 27, as writer Jeff Parker and artist Carlos Rodrigues bring the Cosmic Hulk Robot back into the fold!

"Cosmic Hulk has one main job, which will be clear soon when he goes into action," describes Parker of the robot's role in the Fall of the Hulks. "Now he answers to M.O.D.O.K. and Leader."

Created by the legendary Jack Kirby in the pages of 1977's classic ETERNALS #14, the Cosmic Hulk has now fallen into the hands of the Intelligencia, the group of evil geniuses bent on making the Hulks' lives increasingly chaotic.

"If you read FALL OF THE HULKS: ALPHA, you saw it in the Eternals Antarctic stronghold," Parker reminds. "That was one of the things the Intelligencia lifted in their caper down there. Now the key is they have to activate it again."

And according to Parker, the Hulks shouldn't underestimate their robotic counterpart.

"The tendency would be to say 'well, he's just a robot, break him,'" remarks the writer. "But as you'll see in FALL OF THE HULKS: RED HULK #1, we reveal the nature of this synthetic being, and it becomes apparent that this is easier said than done. If you liked some of the reveals of Marvel history we did in ALPHA, you'll enjoy the back story that goes with Cosmic Hulk."

Beyond reintroducing the Cosmic Hulk Robot, RED HULK will delve deeper into the plans of its titular crimson behemoth.

"This is where we start pulling back the curtain and let readers see what Red has been up against and more of what drives him," promises Parker. "He's not so much in control of events as he has a lot of hard-won knowledge about it all, and is hustling as fast as he can to steer [them] to his own goals."

FALL OF THE HULKS: RED HULK will also provide a greater backdrop to the events occurring in INCREDIBLE HULK and HULK beginning in January.

"You'll get more sense of the real dynamics at play, and the players on the board, some meaty character stuff as we look behind everyone's game face," notes Parker, before listing a few characters fans can expect to see. "A-Bomb! Thundra! Guys with really, really big heads!"

But with his name in the title, the Red Hulk will definitely steer the course of the series, and Parker teases that it's a direction not everyone would expect.

"When you see who [Red] teams up with, you'll start to Hulk out yourself. It becomes clear that he will do whatever is necessary to win."

CGC 9.0 Incredible Hulk #1 Sells for $100,000

Nov 25, 09
As posted in Scoop: Following last week’s record-breaking sale of a CGC-certified 9.2 copy of Incredible Hulk #1 at Heritage Auction Galleries for $125,475, Pedigree Comics has just reported another landmark transaction involving the jade giant’s first issue with a sale of a CGC-certified 9.0 copy for $100,000.

The sale was completed on Tuesday, November 24, 2009.

Pedigree Comics President and CEO Doug Schmell negotiated the transaction between the seller and buyer and both sides "are extremely happy," he said.

“This is the nicest 9.0 copy I have ever seen (I've seen three of them) and actually rivals the Northland 9.2 copy I used to own in structure and appearance. This copy has off-white to white pages and is the glossiest Hulk #1 I've ever seen. Plus, it is perfectly centered, which was a major negotiating point in completing the sale,” he said.

“The buyer made the trip to my office to personally inspect the book and he was very pleased with the its overall appearance. After some back and forth phone calls to the consignor and haggling with the buyer, a price of $100,000 was agreed upon, far eclipsing the previous record for a Hulk #1 in 9.0 of $45,000 set in July, 2006, and just short of the overall record price for an Incredible Hulk #1 reached this past weekend at auction.”

Super Hero Squad Show: Hulk Profile

Nov 16, 09
As posted in Marvel Movie News: Get to know the Super Hero Squad's most lovable AND most destructive member in this special video profile

And get more information about "The Super Hero Squad Show" on their official site!

The Hulk
Hulk’s a monster first, lovable second, childlike never. He’s the strongest Squadder, and the simplest, with major anger issues. When something sets him off, he becomes a tower of rage, ready to smash anything and everything in sight. Handy in a battle, but less helpful when it’s his turn to do the dishes. In such cases, it can take every member of the Squad to calm him. He can also be a bull in a china shop, walking through doors without opening them (or even walls). His rages on the Helicarrier frequently end with a hole in the ship’s foot-thick hull, and an angry green figure plummeting to the ground before bounding back.

Play Hulk and Make Money

Nov 14, 09
As posted in Casino Advisor: Click here to playThe Incredible Hulk is a Playtech online slot based on the movie The Incredible Hulk. It has been licensed through Marvel Movies. The introduction shows Bruce Banner being transformed into the Hulk. The symbols on the reels are all taken from The Incredible Hulk movie. There is the Green Liquid in a beaker that transforms Banner to the Hulk. There are Police Cars and Helicopters, which are the favorite smashing items of the Hulk. The high value card symbols are fashioned in thick stone, which is another item that the Hulk regularly smashes. The Hulk is the wild symbol.

There is no background music but the other audio is suitable to the theme. The colors that dominate the screen are black and green, which go well with the theme. The animation in most of the symbols is minimal. When they make up winning combinations a green glow appears behind the symbols. The Hulk symbol shows good animation. The rage felt by the Hulk is legend and this is expressed in the animation by the Hulk widening his eyes and gnashing his teeth. When the Hulk symbol expands to cover one reel or three reels the animation gets even better.

My Hulk at Marvel

Sep 25, 09
As posted in Marvel Fan Fiction: The Hulk Fan Webcomic that I write, and draw, and post in this site on this page, now has its place  at Marvel.com

It's Marvel's Fan Fiction Board

In this Board full of entertaining stories by Marvel fans, I'll be writing each page of the second chapter The Devil's Throat like a book story.

This allows me to provide more information  than what I can transmit with the artwork and the character dialogs.

For example, this is how page 55, the first page of the second chapter, is told (see drawing here):

- - -

"Hulk! Are you alright?" shouts Dulce while the emerald giant can barely move on the ground.

Turning her attention to the strange visitor, Dulce demands "What have you done to him?!"

The beautiful super heroine pauses for a moment. She senses that there's no evil in the uncanny attacker. But the soft lines of her gorgeous face turn rigid again as she remembers the events of recent, and says:

"Hasn't there been enough death for a day! I won't let you kill the Hulk, whomever you may be!!"

The shining visitor finally turns his face to Dulce. The blue light of his glowing eyes, up to now emotionless, now transmit a bit of surprise.

Suddenly, time seems to stop. It is the visitor who resumes it by speaking for the first time: "My name is Segundo".

And the shining face now with a name continues "I cannot explain my actions now."

Raising his right hand and pointing it at Dulce, Segundo says "... And neither should I let you interfere with them"

But before Dulce can react, a large and dark Hulk figure raises behind Segundo... It's smash time.

Visit the Marvel Fan Fiction Board and read the Hulk Fan Webcomic in this new way. Comments are always welcome and appreciated.

Disney Wants to Buy Marvel Comics

Aug 31, 09
As posted in Comic Book Resources: In what is easily the biggest comic book news in the last ten years, the Walt Disney Company announced this morning its intention to purchase Marvel Entertainment for four billion dollars, a move that would absorb the Marvel Comics stable of classic superheroes and villains into the expansive Disney library of intellectual property.

Though still very early in the acquisition process, a number of details have emerged, including the fact that existing licensing and distribution deals will remain in place for the moment (and presumably for the duration of each respective deal) and that Pixar’s John Lasseter has met with key Marvel creative executives.

For reaction from the ground – the writers and artists who have helped make comic books and Marvel in particular such an attractive space for Disney to move into – CBR News reached out to a number of comics creators, who shared their thoughts below.

Jason Aaron, writer of Marvel’s “Wolverine: Weapon X,” “PunisherMAX”

“I swear by the people I work with at Marvel, like editor Axel Alonso, and they're all very excited about this deal, so that means I'm excited too. To now suddenly be in the same family as John Lasseter and the folks from Pixar is a huge honor and a thrill.”

Two Monthly Hulk Comics Starting August 2009

Aug 26, 09
Since August 26, 2009, there are two montly Hulk comics: Incredible Hulk (by writer Greg Pak and artist Ariel Olivetti), and Hulk (by writer Jeph Loeb and artist Ian Churchill).

Incredible Hulk is the main Hulk comic, and depicts the stories about Bruce Banner (who cannot turn into the Hulk at the moment), and his son Skaar, born in planet Sakaar during the Planet Hulk saga (by Pak).

Hulk is the secondary Jade Jaws comic but with stories about Rulk, the Red Hulk.

The last time there were two monthly comics of the Strongest One There Is was a decado ago (in 1999) when Incredible Hulk and The Rampaging Hulk Vol.2 were coming out. But the Rampaging title only lasted for six issues.

I hope that this time, there will be two Hulk books for a long. As of the time of this article, it is sure that "Hulk" will come out at least until November 2009. Visit the Upcoming Comics page for more details.

See Incredible Hulk #601 Preview with art by Ariel Olivetti

Aug 20, 09
As posted in ComicsBulletin.com: Check out ComicsBulletin.com to see the first six pages from Incredible Hulk #601, by writer Greg Pak and artist Ariel Olivetti.

The six-page preview shows Bruce Banner in a train (to New York) who stands up for a kid hit by his abusive father. Although unable to turn into his alter ego the Hulk when the corpulent father pushes him away, Banner uses his amazing intelligence as defense. Using his hand held computer, Banner hacks into the man's cell phone to get data that compromises the man, and threatens to use it if the man ever mistreats his son again.

When Banner comes out of the subway, a large number of super heroes awaits him, including Mr. Fantastic Reed Richards, Bucky Barnes Captain America, Spider-Man, and Wolverine.

Ariel Olivetti's art is beautiful, merging realism with exaggerated muscular proportions, and a coloring style that reminds of some classic paintings.

Greg Pak's is the favorite Hulk writer of recent, and his new run on the book will let him explore even more the relationship between Banner/Hulk and his son, Skaar, created by Pak at the end of his acclaimed Planet Hulk saga.

Introducing the Red She-Hulk!

Jul 27, 09
As posted in Marvel News: Debuting in October's HULK #16, Red She-Hulk will begin her rampage through the Marvel Universe in a not-to-be-missed story.

"She was always in the mix," writer Jeph Loeb reveals of the character's conception. "The success of the Jen Walter's She-Hulk-one of my favorite characters-opened the door to do a counterpart. But we didn't do it to just do it. [INCREDIBLE HULK writer] Greg Pak and I worked it out so she will play an integral role in what's to come. She might even be the most important character in the upcoming [World War Hulks] epic."

Loeb wouldn't say whether or not fans would have to wait long for the revelation of Red She-Hulk's true identity, but when they do, it will have major repercussions for the larger story in the writer's HULK run so far.

"That would be telling," Loeb teases. "But, what I can say is her origin is critical to everything we've been doing."

Just as the Red Hulk has made a lasting mark on the larger Marvel Universe, Loeb hopes that the character's female counterpart will stick around for a long time to come.

"We've been very careful with the creation of this character," the writer explains. "We wanted to make sure she didn't come off as silly-my memory of the introduction to [the original] She-Hulk-before anyone had read a page. But the character was a completely different take on the Hulk, a Hulk we'd never seen before. Jen is a wonderful character. Our intention is [that] Red She-Hulk will make an equally important impression on the Marvel Universe.

"Red Hulk could've been a character who appeared for a few issues, like Harpy or Rick Jones' 'Teen Hulk,' [but] Red has stuck. Our hope is that Red She-Hulk will be around for some time too."

As to just how the Red Hulk will respond to the latest addition to the gamma-irradiated family, fans will just have to wait and see.

"That's part of what's to come," hints Loeb. "The way Greg and I have laid it out, our hope is that just when you figured out what we've been up to-and, more specifically, what Red She-Hulk has been up to-you'll be very surprised."

Once again, Loeb promises fans that the new Red She-Hulk will be "at the core" of the larger ongoing storyline, and that she will surprise more than a few readers.

"She's quite feral in a way. Super into what she's getting to do. I think of her as Kathleen Turner's character in 'Body Heat,' Maddy Walker. Just when you think you know her-it's too late. You're dead."

Hulk Comic Not Doing Well In Sales

Jul 25, 09
As posted in Wizard Magazine: In its "Shop Talk" section, Wizard Magazine informs that sales on the Hulk comic (written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by several artists) have dropped, and why.

"Starting off hot with a ton of buzz and excitement over the new red and improved Hulk, the series since then has been plagued by delays and a storyarc that's gone from exciting to lagging-with sales taking a serious hit as a result."

Interviewed comic book retailers say that their customers drop off the title in high percentages, mainly because they're turned off by the fact that the identity of the Red Hulk has not yet been revealed (it was hinted that it would by now), and that the schedule keeps slipping.

Besides what the magazine says, in boards and forums you may find comments from many Hulk fans who are disappointed, angry, even disgusted by Loeb's work, asking the return of Greg Pak, something that happens since Incredible Hulk #601 (August 2009).

Megan Fox Rumored as She-Hulk

Apr 16, 09
As posted in ComicBookMovie.com: Megan Fox is being lined up to play She-Hulk. The 'Transformers' star is the favourite to portray the giant green female in the big screen adaptation of the popular comic book series about The Incredible Hulk's cousin. A source said: "'She-Hulk' comics are popular so it's only natural that the character makes the transition to the big screen. The idea is to make She-Hulk sexier but even more savage than the Hulk, which is why Megan is the big favourite for the lead. She'll be green of course and will have to hang on to a few more pieces of clothes than the male version when she transforms!"

Archrivals: Hulk vs Wolverine

Jan 26, 09
As posted in Marvel News: By Marc Strom

Hulk smash puny Canadian mutant!

Bruce Banner's Gamma-irradiated alter ego has had his fair share of altercations with Wolverine. From the X-Man's first appearance to the events of World War Hulk, Marvel's most heroic monster has put Wolverine's unbreakable skeleton to the test time and time again.

Now, with the DVD and Blu-ray release of the animated "Hulk Vs" just a day away, bringing the Green Goliath against both Wolverine and Thor in a duo of all-new movies, we run down some of the greatest Hulk/Wolverine slugfests in Marvel history!

INCREDIBLE HULK #181 (1974)

Wolverine made his debut with this three-way slugfest between the Canucklehead, Hulk and the cannibalistic Wendigo! Working for the Canadian government at the time, Wolvie goes berserker on the Hulkster after he manages to slice and dice the Wendigo. Managing to hold his own, Wolverine puts the Hulk's patience—or lack thereof—to the test, until the monstrous behemoth manages to land one doozy of a punch which succeeds in knocking Logan out, making the Hulk the winner in this pair's first dust up!

INCREDIBLE HULK #340 (1988)

After catching a familiar scent, Wolverine ditches his fellow X-Men and comes up against the Hulk once again. Reminded of their previous encounter, the now-grey mammoth doesn't give Logan a chance to get a word in as he preemptively launches into a full scale beat down. However, also having learned his lesson, Wolvie gives no quarter as he guts the Hulk and leaves him for dead. Unfortunately, the Hulk's advanced healing system has him up on his feet again in no time and the battle continues until S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Alan Quartermain puts a stop to their rampage.

INCREDIBLE HULK #454 (1997)

Hulk has set up camp in the Savage Land, but when Wolverine and Ka-Zar come knocking on his proverbial door, he gets a little upset. And when Hulk gets upset, he starts punching things. When Wolverine slashes at the Jade Giant's throat, the Hulk is relieved to discover his mutant opponent has lost the adamantium covering his skeleton, leaving him with bone claws incapable of breaking through Gamma-irradiated skin. Though he manages to get his hands around the X-Man's neck, a stampeding T-Rex breaks up the fight and the Hulk mysteriously collapses before it can resume.

WOLVERINE/HULK #1-4 (2002)

A girl's ghost asks Wolverine to help her get "Uncle Bruce's" help in finding her father, but unfortunately for Logan, Uncle Bruce's last name just happens to be Banner. While the Hulk pummels him, the girl makes Wolverine promise not to hurt his agitator. Luckily for him, their one-sided battle causes a massive avalanche which smothers Hulk and renders him unconscious. But even with an advanced mutant healing factor, Wolverine had his share of aches and pains the next morning!

WORLD WAR HULK: X-MEN #2 (2007)

Recently returned to Earth looking to make the Illuminati pay for rocketing him off to the nether regions of space, one of the first people Hulk stops to visit happens to be Charles Xavier, leader of the X-Men. Wolverine joins his teammates in defending the Professor, and in one of the quickest Hulk/Wolverine battles on the record books the Hulk lands a punishing series of blows directly to Wovie's head, shaking his brain around in his unbreakable, adamantium-laced skull. Here's hoping that healing factor applies to brain cells, as well!

Stan Lee Uncut

Jan 15, 09
As posted in Details by Men.Style.com: Comic book great Stan Lee tells DETAILS magazine about superheroes we need, picking up ladies, and being out-geeked by Gene Simmons.

Q: They say print is dead. Are comic books?
A: Not at all. I'm no prophet, but the surge in popularity of graphic novels tells you something. Kids are still interested in great stories told with great pictures—and when I say kids, I'm talking about 40-year-old lawyers and doctors. But what's really driving comic books is Hollywood. As long as they keep turning these stories into movies, the superhero industry is going to stay strong.

Psych Ward: The Hulk

Oct 7, 08
As posted in Marvel News: From the outset, it should be noted that the majority of this report is based on naturalistic observation of the behemoth creature known as the Hulk. As such, any opinions or diagnoses presented should be taken with some skepticism as for most of the creature's existence, personal interviews and/or sessions were not a possibility or were rejected by it.

The Hulk is a humanoid of immense size. His skin tone has fluctuated, over the years, between green and grey. Reports of a red hued Hulk are being ignored for the sake of this report as a colleague, Dr. Leonard Sampson, reports that the green/grey Hulk and the red Hulk are not one and the same. The writer defers to Dr. Sampson in this area as he is considered to be the leading expert on the Hulk, with the exception of Dr. Bruce Banner.

In addition to his varying skin color, the client has also exhibited a wide range of dress and personal hygiene. In early sessions, it favored little by way of grooming and was most often dressed in a seemingly endless supply of purple pants. Upon resuming the grey skin tone it initially possessed, the Hulk began to favor finer clothes, such as tailored suits. Eventually, the Hulk once more returned to green. This time, however, he seemed to be more aware of himself and, while not embracing the fashion forward stylings of his grey side, he was significantly more likely to wear appropriate amounts of clothing in the proper size. There were noted fluctuations with this until the Hulk disappeared for several weeks. Upon the client's return, during the invasion of New York that has been dubbed "World War Hulk," it favored armor and tribal style dressings.

Skaar: Savage Tales

Sep 4, 08
As posted in Marvel News: On September 24, SKAAR: SON OF HULK PRESENTS – SAVAGE WORLD OF SAKAAR #1 will delve into the back stories of several of the regular series' supporting cast members, courtesy of writer Greg Pak with artwork by Timothy Green II, Gabriel Hardman, Carlo Pagulayan and the legendary Tim Truman.

According to Pak, the special one-shot fits seamlessly into Skaar's ongoing series, picking up where the previous issue left off.

"There's a main story that follows the Son of Hulk, Princess Omaka, and the other refugees as they make their way towards Prophet Rock, where the mysterious stranger known as Old Sam says he'll help Skaar achieve his true potential for massive power," Pak explains.

"Of course, this comes after Skaar has already smashed the barbarian leader Axeman Bone, survived the fire of the dragons of Fillia, and nearly dismembered the refugees' Hero Protector, Princess Omaka. Which begs the question—just what the heck are these fools thinking?

"Then there are several other stories woven

SAVAGE WORLD
OF SAKAAR

throughout the book that reveal previously untold tales that shed new light on our principal characters as they all struggle with just how smart it is to be seeking so much additional power for an insanely savage manchild like Skaar."

As Pak has hinted in the past, some of those characters have a few surprising ties to players we've seen before in the pages of "Planet Hulk," and he promises that at least one of those connections will reveal itself in this one-shot.

"Absodarnlutely," Pak confirms. "In particular, look for one of Skaar's closest relatives to appear in a surprise story from the past of Princess Omaka."

SDCC '08: Hulk VS Wolverine Panel Report

Jul 28, 08
As posted in Marvel News: At Comic-Con International this past weekend, Marvel held the world premiere of its latest animated feature, "Hulk VS Wolverine." The movie, one-half of the "Hulk VS" DVD out next January—the other half, "Hulk VS Thor," was not shown at the panel—delivered the goods, beginning with a brutal confrontation between Wolverine and the Hulk.

From there the film began to focus largely on Logan and his mysterious past. Flashbacks retold his origins at Weapon X, adapting portions of Barry Windsor-Smith's original "Weapon X" story, while in the present day the Canucklehead found himself and the good Dr. Banner captured by some of the program's other agents, Omega Red, Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike, and a very talkative Deadpool.

In attendance were the film's co-writer and supervising producer, Craig Kyle; producer and supervising director Frank Paur; co-writer Chris Yost; and Fred Tatasciore, the man responsible for bringing the Hulk's distinctive personality to life on the screen.

Kyle explained that the DVD format "allows us to get away with a lot. This is the place we love to be because they don't watch us too closely," going on to say that most people expect animated films released in theaters to be much more kid-friendly than the movies they want to produce.

Comic book artist Michael Turner has passed away on Friday June 27, 2008, at the age of 37, after a long battle against cancer.

Michael, a talented and beloved artist, is most known for being the co-creator and long time penciler of Witchblade. He was also the creator of Fathom and Soulfire for his Aspen MLT Inc Comics and drew almost every major character for the top comic book companies, this work included pinups and covers picturing the Incredible Hulk.

I met him at the 2002 Pittsburgh Comicon. Michael was always with a smile on his face, and eager to hear what fans told him, signing covers and taking pictures with them. He was full of life, a nice guy. He had already been diagnosed with cancer at that time.

May you rest in peace, Michael.

Everbody Loves The Hulk!

Jun 14, 08
As posted in Newsarama: In an era in Hollywood when many new movies are adapted from other media, comic book characters and stories like Hellboy, Wanted and Batman are seen as tested stories, already proven with audiences before they hit the big screen. And The Hulk is no different. Introduced to readers more than 45 years ago by comic legends Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the Hulk character has retained his popularity through various comic book incarnations, movies, cartoons and a live action TV show. And for Marvel Comics, The Hulk is still well-liked enough to have just been the headliner of the publisher's blockbuster event last year, World War Hulk.

So in a fictional landscape filled with monstrous creatures, what is it about The Hulk that resonates with fans and gives him such lasting appeal? We talked to a few of the comic book creators who have written and drawn his stories over the years to find out.

Greg Pak "The beauty of the Hulk is his simplicity: Banner gets angry, Banner turns into the Hulk, and the Hulk smashes," says Greg Pak, the award-winning screenwriter who penned both Planet Hulk and World War Hulk for Marvel. "That's unbelievably fun on a sheer, visceral level. But what makes the character truly great is that once you scratch the surface, that ongoing theme of the price of anger becomes endlessly compelling on a deeper emotional level."

Peter David, one of the writers who is indelibly linked to The Hulk after years of writing the character during the '80s and '90s, said the character also appeals to that part in all of us that hides a darker side. "Because everyone has an inner monster," the writer said. "Most people aren't Gods, or supergeniuses, or independently wealthy. But everyone has a dark side, whether they want to admit to it or not.

Comics creator Jerry Ordway, who has both written and drawn the character, said The Hulk originally stood out because he was created as a cross-breed of the monster comics that were popular in the 1950's and superhero comics. "It was like King Kong versus Godzilla, because The Hulk faced off against the Toad-Men, Mongu and the Metal Master, all alien beings, while still being hunted like an escaped wild animal by the military," Ordway explained. "Those first six issues stand as a blueprint for what the Hulk is about -- a man with a curse, unable to control it, much like the old Universal Studios Wolf Man, or Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. You'd be as uneasy standing next to the Hulk as you would a grizzly bear -- you had no idea whether he's going to take you head off with a casual swing of the arm. How cool is that?"

Yet since that beginning, the character has evolved into a more complicated persona as writers have delved into the psychology of the character's battle between his two sides. It's that duality, David said, that resonates with readers -- not the monster side, but the conflict between it and the Bruce Banner part of the character. "I don't identify with a big green monster. I identify with the notion of duality because it's so very much a part of the human condition. And I focus my stories on that, thus making it accessible to readers, beyond the limiting notion of simply having the Hulk smash stuff," the writer explained.

Mike Deodato Jr Mike Deodato Jr., a Brazilian artist who has drawn The Hulk in several different comics, said readers also identify with the "good guy" side of the character, who lashes out at those things he sees as wrong. "All the rage, all the torment, all the bureaucracy, all the anything and everything that just drags their lives down -- The Hulk is symbolically their way of breaking out, breaking free, of fighting back against all the things that knocked them down," Deodato said. "Who doesn't want to roar at someone who has done you wrong and just start smashing things -- and have it mean something?"

Pak agreed that everyone wishes they could attack when they see something wrong, but the writer said he also tries to show the consequences of lashing out. "Folks may call the Hulk a monster, but almost invariably, the people he smashes have clocked some major overtime in the jerk department," he said. "But then the critical next step is to remember that no matter how justified that smashing was, uncontrolled anger has a price. And one way or another, the Hulk always has to pay it.

"That may seem like a contradiction -- if the Hulk on some level is a wish fulfillment character, letting us vicariously enjoy the rage we sometimes wish we could unleash ourselves, why would we want to see him punished?" Pak added. "I think the answer is that the Hulk is much more than just an escape fantasy or release valve; at his best, the character can be a means for us to deal with, understand, and maybe even begin to transcend our own all-too-human anger. And that means exploring the emotional and spiritual cost of untrammeled rage."

But if The Hulk represents the darker, rage-filled side of human beings, would there ever be a time when such a violent character is no longer relevant? Is there a place for The Incredible Hulk in a future that many idealistically imagine being less violent?

"I think the human animal hasn't fundamentally changed in thousands of years," David said. "That's why it amuses me when I see parents groups railing against comic books or R-rated films claiming that they're instigating violence. As if youngsters were never violent before comic books. As if adults were never violent before watching R-rated movies. I think for as long as people are what they are, there will always be an audience for The Hulk."

"Some day every last person on the planet may transfer his or her consciousness to a digital, bodiless form and assume an existence of pure calculation and reason, stripped of all emotion," Pak said. "But until that happens, the Hulk will continue to be deeply compelling to us puny humans."

"Incredible Hulk" Movie Review by Newsarama

Jun 13, 08
As posted in Newsarama:

By Michael San Giacomo

Here’s my The Incredible Hulk review for people in a hurry.

*The CGI Hulk looks good, best in night scenes.

*Norton is a better Banner than Bana.

*The film moves a lot faster than the 2003 Ang Lee directed Hulk.

*There is a cool “preview” at the end, this time Marvel put it before the credits instead of after.

* And the movie works, not as good as Iron Man, but better than most Marvel movies.

Hulk fans are gonna love the Louis Leterrier directed Hulk.

The acting all around is solid, the special effects are make-you-duck realistic and the Zak Penn script sings.

Anyone who thought the first Hulk film slow will be glad to know that the Green Guy shows up much sooner this time, sharing more screen time with his alter-ego played perfectly by Edward Norton. The whole cast is flippin’ brilliant. William Hurt and Liv Tyler are great as father and daughter Thunderbolt and Betty Ross, but it is Tim Roth who steals the show as Emil Blonsky, before he turns into the monstrous Abomination.

That’s all you get without taking chances. I’ve tried to be discrete, but after this sentence I’ll talk about some plot points which some sensitive souls may not want to read.

Thou hast been warned.

The film is a comic lover’s dream, a smashing, rampaging green monster that does not look like something from Pixar. Whatever problems plagued the Ang Lee film’s CGI has been solved, and that’s half the battle.

The movie opens with an effective fast-clip overview of the birth of the Hulk and an introduction to the central characters. It’s five years since the first film, which is barely referenced, and Bruce Banner is living in Brazil and learning to use breathing and meditation techniques to curb his inner demon.

Things go fine until he is betrayed by a single drop of blood. Stan Lee appears early in the film in more than a walk-on role, as he learns to his horror just how powerful and life-altering even a drop of Banner blood can be.

Britisher Tim Roth is Ross’ main mean man, a Wolverine-tough soldier who leads the troops to capture a surprisingly spry and swift Banner. Of course, comic fans know that Blonsky eventually becomes the reptilian Abomination, but they will be surprised and happy about the twisted path he takes to get there.

Sharp-eyed viewers should be sure to check out the name on the super-soldier formula introduced in the film. The name looked like Dr. Weinstein to me, but it’s possible it said “Dr. Reinstein,” the code name for Doctor Abraham Erskine, who gave Steve Rogers the fabled formula. Let me know.

The fight scenes between Blonsky and the Hulk in downtown New York are brutal and effective. The times of calm between the fight scenes are nice respites as Liv Tyler does her “Beauty and the Beast” impression.

There are some nice nostalgic touches in the film, numerous homages to the television show, the recurring theme of stretching purple pants, Lou Ferrigno as the voice of the Hulk and as a security guard, "Mr. Green and Mr. Blue" and Banner watching “The Courtship of Eddie’s Father.“

And boy howdy does it set up clues for a sequel. Samuel Sterns, like Stan Lee, gets a tiny taste of Hulk blood and begins to transform into a certain very high-brow character. The psychiatrist, “Leonard” with no last name, gets very upset about losing Betty Ross. And then there is the epilogue, which I will not discuss.

But it brings up something exciting that has been missing from most comic movies, Marvel or DC. Marvel continues down a unique path, making the movies interconnect much like the comics upon which they are based.

It would come as no surprise to have seen the Torch flying over the streets of New York, or Iron Man stopping by to lend a hand to Thunderbolt Ross. The references to S.H.I.E.L.D. and Stark weaponry were everywhere, indicating that this is a single universe.

First a perfect Iron Man and now an incredible Hulk. Marvel's on a roll.

Hulk #4 Previews and More

Jun 4, 08
As posted in Marvel Comics News: Writer Jeph Loeb brings home the bacon in HULK #4, on sale June 25 (2008) giving Marveldom Assembled two Hulks for the price of one: the new Red Hulk and the original Green Hulk! That means big trouble for the Earth, of course!

For the past few issues of HULK, the new scarlet brute's been tearing up the town, abolishing the Abomination and altercatin' with A-Bomb, among other atrocities. But will he finally meet his match in the One, the Only, the Green Hulk?

HULK #4
interior page

"The Red Hulk is all about strategy," says Loeb. "As we've pointed out, he's brutal because he likes it. The Abomination was dead from the beating and then [Red] shot him.

"The Green Hulk has the disadvantage that he doesn't really know what the heck he's dealing with, where the Red Hulk has been waiting for this."

Loeb remains mum on the true identity of the Red Hulk, despite rampant rumors among readers. The behemoth seems to possess a keen sense of tactics, leading some fans to believe a military personage lurks beneath the crimson exterior. Others declare that an old Hulk-foe like Doc Samson may be the answer to the gamma-spawned mystery.

HULK #4
interior page

Regardless, the Red Hulk's cut a swath of destruction across the globe, from Canada to Russia to New York and beyond, and his real self could be the least of his opponents' worries. Despite the danger, some witnesses to the coming fight might just feel like tempting fate and insinuate themselves into the melee.

"Well, we know that there's A-Bomb out there somewhere, unless he dies in the Harpy incident," says the writer. "But that would be kind of lame, right? And one thing HULK isn't is lame!"

HULK #4
interior page

Like his green doppelganger, Red's powers extend to titanic strength and stamina, and the frightening ability to shed incredible doses of gamma radiation as he gets angrier. The original Hulk must fight more cunningly than ever before to beat this monstrosity.

And if cunning fails, well, when it comes to citing the distinct advantages the Green Hulk possesses in a fight, the famed scribe Loeb defines succinct.

"The angrier the Green Hulk gets, the stronger he is," Loeb points out. "Kind of like Ali vs. Foreman for you boxing fans."

To continue with the boxing metaphor, will Loeb make like Cosell and predict a winner in the HULK #4 match?

"What's the old saying?" he asks. "'It doesn't really matter who wins the fight—the Earth itself loses!'"

Witness this tussle of titans for yourself in the pages of HULK #4, on sale June 25. For a deeper look into the events of HULK #1-#3 and a ring-side seat for a Red Hulk vs. She-Hulk throwdown, pick up a copy of KING-SIZE HULK #1, now on sale!

The Incredible Hulk’s CGI gets a little fine-tuning

May 20, 08
As posted in Blog@Newsarama:

When the first trailer for The Incredible Hulk debuted in March, there were complaints online — shocking, I know — about the quality of the CGI, specifically the appearance of the Green Goliath. Some went so far as to say it was worse than Gumby-esque Hulk in the Ang Lee film.

But if you caught the three new TV commercials over the weekend, you may have noticed the movie’s special effects have been fine-tuned.

You mean you didn’t notice? Well, that’s okay, because Alex Billington of First Showing did. He even provides the visual aid shown below comparing an image from the teaser trailer (top) with one of the new TV spots (bottom). In the shot, the Hulk’s skin tone appears to have been tweaked, his hair has been given more detail, and he’s been given the remnants of a shirt.

Is it an improvement? I don’t know. Of course, I didn’t have a problem with his appearance in the initial trailer … The Incredible Hulk opens on June 13. ~ Kevin Melrose

New Incredible Hulk Photo Reveals Captain America’s Origin

May 13, 08
As posted in Slash Film: Universal has released a new batch of photos from The Incredible Hulk. The photo shown below is significant because it’s our first look at the super serum that will be (or was) used to create the superhero known as Captain America.

Super Serum

Apparently in the film, William Hurt’s General Thunderbolt Ross tells Tim Roth’s Emil Blonsky about a weapons program initiated during World War II to create a “super soldier” before giving him the injection.

Earlier this weekend, Captain America’s shield was spotted on Tony Stark’s workbench. You gotta love how the Marvel Universe is now working in unity on the big screen.

Ron Garney to Pencil Skaar: Son of Hulk

Mar 17, 08
As posted in Marvel Comics News: Babies always make for good announcements. Hell, just look at Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie, and Jessica Alba! But sometimes a new baby in the house means more than just adorable tabloid photos—in the case of the Hulk's son, Skaar, it means gamma-irradiated outer space adventure

Writer Greg Pak has had his eye on some sort of baby Banner ever since the start of the epic year-long "Planet Hulk" storyline in the pages of INCREDIBLE HULK, and now his plans come to fruition this fall with the 12-part SKAAR: SON OF HULK. And just announced this weekend, Hulk veteran Ron Garney, whose work can currently be seen in WOLVERINE, will be joining the project as artist.

Garney helped to re-launch INCREDIBLE HULK in 1999, where his attention to detail wowed fans. With the announcement still ringing in the ears of the press, we spoke to Pak about what Ron's pencils mean to the series, and what's in store for this mystery member of the Banner clan.

"I loved Ron's work on INCREDIBLE HULK from a few years back," raves Pak. "He delivered these incredibly dynamic images that were chock full of amazing detail, which is an amazing thing to be able to do. And then I saw his recent work for WOLVERINE and my head exploded."

To hear the writer tell it, Garney's addition to the SKAAR team brought "much rejoicing throughout the land." Pak knows that the artist, whose resume includes lengthy runs on CAPTAIN AMERICA, UNCANNY X-MEN and AMAZING SPIDER-MAN among other work, provides the final piece to the dream project he has been building for nearly two years.

"The idea of a son of Hulk came about during the planning stages of 'Planet Hulk,' shares Pak, "The climactic end of the story created the possibility, and the shattered, war-torn world that resulted would be a phenomenal setting for an entirely new way to explore some of the themes that have animated the Hulk from day one."

Green Rage: 13 Incredible Hulk Video Game Screenshots

Mar 14, 08
As posted in Marvel Video Game News: Hulk smashes his way back into video games with his own brand new title this June, just in time for the June 13 release of the "Incredible Hulk" movie. Developed by Edge of Reality and published by Sega, "Hulk" hits PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS (developed by Amaze), PS2 and PC!

Set in New York City and around key moments from the film, the third-person action game also features a plethora of plotlines and characters culled straight from Hulk's comic book origins. Abomination? Check! Bi-Beast. Done!

As befits a game starring the monstrous Hulk, this game allows players to demolish everything in their path and also use it as a weapon—from pieces of annihilated buildings to passing cars to street lights. Don't like a building? Climb to the top and send it crashing or tear it down with your giant green hands. Even better, it's not just wanton destruction. Smash the world apart to gain access to previously unreachable areas.

As you unleash Hulk's fury, you'll also build his rage. The angrier he gets, the more powerful he becomes. As Hulk gets bigger and badder, he also gains new abilities and moves!

With stiff gaming competition this year, look for an especially realistic next-gen, open-world representation of Manhattan that provides gamers with an immense playground of destruction that also contains sub-quests, mini-games and one heckuva story that reaches beyond the film to include elements from classic Marvel comics!

In Memoriam: Steve Gerber

Feb 15, 08
As posted in Scoop: Steve Gerber Steve Gerber, the creator of Howard the Duck, Omega the Unknown and Hard Time in comic books and Thundarr the Barbarian in cartoons, passed away at the age of 60. He had publically written about his battle with fibrosis of the lungs. His friend, writer Mark Evanier, posted the sad news on Gerber’s blog.

Among his many credits in the comic book field were stints on The Defenders, Man-Thing, and most recently Dr. Fate, while his cartoon work included Dungeons and Dragons, Transformers, and G.I. Joe. He was also one of the creators of Malibu’s Ultraverse line.

“Steve was one of the finest writers of a generation, and a paradoxical, gentle warrior who labored heavily under the burdens of battles for principle, for others, and all too often, for existence,” Paul Levitz, President and Publisher of DC Comics posted on Gerber's blog. “Besides his signed work, even unsigned pieces as simple as letter columns were models of the art for the rest of us. He enlisted us in his crusades because of his decency, passion, and willingness to take the first bullet in the charge.”

Hulk 2008 Movie: Iron Man Crossover

Jan 19, 08
As posted in MTV Movies: PARK CITY, Utah — William Hurt is a consummate actor and a closet (until now) comic book geek. Both of which explain his excitement in revealing a bit about one surprise scene he shot for this summer's The Incredible Hulk.

"I have a scene with Iron Man, with Robert Downey Jr.," the Oscar-winning actor told MTV News Friday at the Sundance Film Festival. "It's a funky scene."

For those who haven't heard the news, superhero house Marvel Comics is aggressively cross-pollinating its superheroes, most likely in preparation for an eventual Avengers movie. That means Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury will make a cameo appearance in May 2's Iron Man, and ol' metalhead himself will drop into Hulk. Little has been said about the scene — until now.

"I don't know how it'll work," Hurt admitted, saying it was a thrill to appear as General Thaddeus Ross during Downey's scene. "I know it's weird [to work with a character from another movie], and to know it's a device. We did something; I don't know what that's going to be like [to watch]."

In town to unveil the cross-generational romantic drama "The Yellow Handkerchief" to a packed theater of weepy, applauding moviegoers, Hurt was happy to discuss the transition from making that independent film to one of the year's most anticipated blockbusters. "[Marvel] has a lot of guts," he said of the June 13 flick that recast all the characters of 2003's Hulk. "I hope the film works. I have no idea, because it's so out of my hands now."

Still, Hurt has one particular scene — and several plot revelations — that he can't wait to watch on the big screen.

"Liv Tyler, I play her father, General Ross," he explained. "There's a scene, and during that scene there are a number of things happening. [Hulk] has beaten Abomination, and then there's a crowd that gathers around, and they realize that he's beaten Abomination. That Abomination was the one who was killing for just the joy of killing; Hulk is not the one."

"It's the moment of turn," Hurt added, "when society's relationship with Hulk stops being so stupid."

First Photos From The 2008 Hulk Movie!

Jan 9, 08
As posted in Marvel News: 2008 may only be a few days old, but we're quite excited for June 13, 2008. On that most awesome of Fridays, the green goliath smashes back into theaters in "The Incredible Hulk!"

Oh, how will we deal with the excruciating wait? By ogling new photos, including the first two, presented here in all their grandeur!

We've heard tell that the image at left of Bruce Banner (played by Edward Norton) is more than just a killer shot of the film's protagonist lookin' all cool in his tank top. With the word already out that Banner is looking for a cure to his...affliction...perhaps the purple substance in that vial he's holding has something to do with that antidote? Puttin' down 'Ol Green Genes will be no easy task, but could this be the answer to his big green problem? Will Banner rid himself of the Hulk once and for all? Can't wait to find out!

While cool and creepy in an, "oh my goodness, what in the world is going on here" kind of way, seeing this photo at right of Banner strapped into this crazy machine shot a rocket of remembrance right through our brains. Does it look familiar to anyone? Hmm... Well, the Incredible Hulk TV show of the late '70s and early '80s has been publicly stated as an influence on the film. The movie image seems eerily familiar to a scene from the classic series. Here, at left, are the two shots, side by side. Read into it what you will, Hulkophiles—your theories will either materialize, or in jade giant fashion, get SMASHED just a few months from now!

SKAAR: SON OF HULK saga, Spring 2008

Dec 19, 07
As posted in Marvel News: Looking forward, Pak reminds fans that Planet Hulk and World War Hulk were the first two parts of a trilogy concluding with the upcoming SKAAR: SON OF HULK saga in spring 2008.

"In a way, if SKAAR is the direct sequel to 'Planet Hulk' on Planet Sakaar, the WARBOUND miniseries continues that 'Planet Hulk' vibe right here on planet Earth," muses the scribe.

The writer has woven an intricate tapestry between each of his Hulk tales, and moving ahead with WARBOUND and SKAAR, Pak assures the tales, "establish a critical new milieu for possible Hulk-related stories in the future."

WORLD WAR HULK: WARBOUND

Dec 19, 07
As posted in Marvel News: War is hell, and for the Warbound, that may be their next destination.

WORLD WAR HULK: WARBOUND #1 hit stands this past week from the mastermind behind the epic Planet Hulk and World War Hulk sagas, writer Greg Pak, alongside artist Leonard Kirk. The series picks up on the heels of WWH, following the nomadic cast, called the Warbound; a group of former imprisoned gladiators from the planet Sakaar, who united with the Hulk to overthrow their homeworld's global tyranny and herald in the Green Goliath's revenge against the superhero cabal, the Illuminati.

However, following an unbelievable betrayal from one of their own, and the subsequent defeat of the Hulk in the heart of New York City, the remaining members of the Warbound—Brood, Elloe, Hiroim, and Korg—found themselves rethinking their desire for revenge in favor of halting a cycle of violence they found all too familiar. Now, on the run from SHIELD for their involvement in WWH, the Warbound find, as always, they're on their own.

"The big theme here revolves around the promises we make to each other and the life and death consequences of breaking—or keeping—those oaths," explains Pak. "The Warbound are monsters and rejects who found meaning in their lives through their shared oath to stand by each other to the end. In [this] story our heroes will have to confront the question of whether their oath will save their world or destroy it."

The on-the-run travels of the Warbound have taken the group from the streets of Manhattan all the way to the New Mexico desert—the birthplace of the Jade Giant!

"Exactly why the Warbound have been brought to the desert is a big mystery that will be revealed as the series progresses," teases Pak.

Pak will disclose that one supporting cast member in WARBOUND may be a familiar face to Hulk scholars: SHIELD agent and former love of Bruce Banner from the 1980s, Kate Waynesboro.

"Back in the day, Kate was a double agent, working for and falling in love with Banner while spying on him for SHIELD," recaps the writer. "Now she's been sent by SHIELD to help capture the Warbound, the big question becomes how much they can trust her when they're trapped together in a new crisis."

The new crisis in question may revolve around locale on the Warbound's map—Gammaworld. Back in INCREDIBLE HULK #110, Hulk ally, Amadeus Cho mentioned his working project, Gammaworld, would be a self-contained habitat in the New Mexico desert serving as a refuge for gamma-powered residents like the Hulk. Consequently, no non-gamma powered beings could enter past Gammaworld's borders, and it would be the ideal place for the Hulk to live in peace; alone. However, peace is not always met without struggle.

"I'll just say that someone else has gotten his skinny green fingers on Amadeus' plan, and horrific hijinks will ensue," hints Pak.

The trail from Planet Hulk through World War Hulk has left the Warbound beyond battered and bruised with as much internal damages as external destruction. In issue #4 of the series, the writer says the team will "face the toughest battle of their lives when they must fight one of their own." Will that battle end in death? Pak remains tight-lipped but promises the series will have a shocking conclusion.

Adding more bang for your buck, a chain of back-up tales called, "Tales of the Warbound," will run through the series revealing the secret past of each member, and further the involvement of Agent Waynesboro.

Jeph Loeb & Ed McGuinness Make The Hulk See Red!

Dec 3, 07
As posted in Marvel News: After the Earth-shattering events of World War Hulk, the Hulk is seemingly no more…but then just who's the red-skinned behemoth calling himself the Hulk? The acclaimed, superstar creative team of writer Jeph Loeb (ULTIMATES 3, television's "Heroes") and artist Ed McGuinness present HULK #1, launching an all-new era for Hulk that kicks off with one of his oldest cast members' murder! Iron Man, She-Hulk and Leonard Samson are on the case, but with all evidence pointing towards Hulk as the murderer, will justice be done?

"When Ed McGuinness came to Marvel, he told me this was the book he was most interested in," said the Eisner Award-winning Loeb. "He was brimming with ideas, sketches, redesigns, the works. I've always been a Hulk fan, HULK: GRAY is still one of my favorite things I've done at Marvel, and so teaming with Ed-- who I had a great deal of fun with Superman/Batman-- is a dream project for both of us. We hope that the fans and retailers like the thrill ride wrapped in a mystery that we've created. Ed's art never looked better, Jason's colors are remarkable and my good luck charm Richard Starkings' design and lettering is magical. I'm having a blast!"

Red Rage: Jeph Loeb's Hulk

Nov 15, 07
As posted in Marvel News: WORLD WAR HULK may have ended with an explosion of emerald, but the Aftersmash will have Marvel's most unpredictable force of nature seeing red.

Spinning out of the dramatic finale of WWH, which left Bruce Banner apparently depowered and imprisoned, Rick Jones possibly dead, and other major changes to the status quo solidly in place, the blockbuster creative team of writer Jeph Loeb and artist Ed McGuinness reunite for a smashing new HULK ongoing series starting in January featuring a Hulk of a decidedly different color.

"In the world [HULK] takes place in, people have seen first hand the potential for destruction [during WORLD WAR HULK] and know they can't afford to underestimate the Hulk," lays out the book's editor Mark Paniccia. "But the new Hulk just might be deadlier than they can imagine."

Did he say new Hulk? Loeb's not so sure:

"I'm not sure I'm comfortable saying there's a new Hulk," the writer asserts. "That's not to say there isn't, but we'll have to keep some of that secret for now."

Regardless of whether or not the ruby ruffian starring in HULK goes by a familiar name or a new one in his private life, he'll be facing a new kind of challenge by the end of his first issue: a murder rap.

"There's a murder and it's pretty gruesome," reveals Loeb. "The number one suspect is the Hulk, but that can't be right—or can it? That's how the story opens. Then it gets wilder."
